about

Written in 2010, I knew it had to go on the album when it made Betsy want to run to her music room and wrap her cello around it. This song was sponsored by the Lady Silverwind, who I have known since I was part of the "living carpet" in her merchant booth all those years ago.

lyrics

Snow White, Rose Red,
Sleeping Beauty almost dead
Little girl sent for flowers in the snow
Where did you all go?
Red Hood, clever ruse
Wearing out twelve sets of shoes
Golden hair, tumbling down
Too high the cost of a golden crown

They gave you happily ever-afters
But they never let you choose
And when the heroes fought your monsters
Did you ever wish that they would lose?

Sometimes we wish to face our demons
To know we've got the strength to win
And where the other girls see endings
We know its here that we begin

Stole a rose, left the sea
Bird of fire in an apple tree
On a lake lived an enchanted swan
Where have you all gone?
Golden ball, gingerbread
Remember what your mother said
Pumpkin coach fled through the town
Too high the cost of a golden crown

They gave you all your ever-afters
But they never let you chose
If that is where you'd end your story
If its not your choice than whose?

Sometimes we wish to face our demons
To know we've got the strength to win
And where the other girls see endings
We know its here that we begin

Weave your shirts, don’t make a sound
Half your life spent underground
Spin straw to gold to please a king
Where have you all been?
Don’t peek at night, don’t use the key
To prove your worth sleep on a pea
Mirror shards come snowing down
Too high the cost of a golden crown

There’s more to life than ever-afters
And its up to you to choose
If you’ll save yourself from monsters
Or let yourself be used

Sometimes its time to face our demons
And know we’ve got the strength to win
And where other girls see endings
We know its here that we begin
